The videoconference that PM Modi is holding to discuss the lockdown measures and how to lift it with chief ministers of all states will now resume after a break. Most states have raised their issues and have suggested that the lockdown be extended to contain the spread of the virus. Sources told CNBC-TV18 that the Assam government has suggested the lockdown to be extended for 2 more weeks. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has also requested that the lockdown be extended to contain the spread of the virus.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh raised the need to test and test extensively in the videoconference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 11. He proposed that the center should consider empowering state financially and economically. “States should have flexibility in micro-planning & the decision on designating the red, orange/yellow and green zones should be left to us,” he said in a tweet. “We have increased our test capacity exponentially to around 2500 per day but that's not enough to fight #COVID19. We need central labs located in Punjab & Chandigarh to be immediately directed to do testing,” the Punjab CM said.
